I have almost no knowledge on Mexican or Peruvian mythology and found this to be a good overview on the ancient cultures and religions. The mythology description is pretty general and only talks about a few important stories and Gods. The description of the religious customs and rituals were very interestingProduct details

I just downloaded the book and noticed that it has a copyright date of 1907. I just started chapter 1 and felt it important to note that the comments about not knowing how long indigenous peoples have been here or how they got here is still a debate in history classes in college. Unfortunately, the debate only shows that those creating and continuing the argument did inadequate research. The US has long known that artifacts in Calico, CA have dated to about 200,000 years ago and that no one will ever know for sure how long indigenous peoples have been here because everything used was biodegradable. Another factor preventing such discovery is that the European destroyed most of history of the indigenous proples.
I am glad though that the author addressed the fact that there is allot of room for discovery and reanalysis including that of the origin of the European, Caucasian. Some theories speculate at the origin from the African Albino then through selective mating resulted in modern human. Another theory being that Adam and Eve represent an escaped pair of African Albino or more creating current results.
This book is definitely written with influence for the European. The sources range from the late 1700's to the late 1800's. I find it interesting very little has changed in scientific discovery about the indigenous peoples of this side of the ocean. Contrary to what the author writes about the indigenous peoples learning from the European or Asian, the probability of the European and Asian learning from indigenous peoples would more accurate. It has been a historical truth and common practice that the info gained was claimed proprietary and a discovery by the European. But as previously stated, the book is over 100 years old.
Nevertheless I am interested in what science discovers next, what they alter, what they hide, and what mistakes they correct or admit to.
Considering that the book is over 100 years old, I am eager to read what the European American and European knew then compared to now. I may update again pending.
This book is a great read.. Its very welll written and mind opening. I hope to find more titles like this in the future...
I found this very interesting and gave an adequate overview of the various myths of mexico but left me wanted to know more...which is not a bad thing.
Most coursework skips the information in this book. The myths of pre-Hispanic cultures were intricate, interesting, and telling of these peoples' beliefs. Very interesting.
